ORLANDO, FLORIDA – 3rd June 2024 – APG Media, a premier provider of virtual production solutions, has completed the design and installation of a cutting-edge virtual production studio for The King’s Academy in Florida, expanding the school’s ability to deliver high-end film and media education. Known as “King’s Academy Volume 2,” the project features a large-format, fine-pitch 1.9mm LED volume using 150 custom HyperPixel x Infiled panels—engineered specifically for cinematic virtual production.
Following the success of their initial LED volume—also supplied and installed by APG—the school partnered again with APG to elevate their capabilities inside a brand-new technology building opened in 2023. The goal: build a production-ready system that mirrors professional standards while serving a robust educational curriculum.
“Virtual production is no longer just for Hollywood. Schools like The King’s Academy are embracing it to teach real-world skills,” said Tim Hatch, Vice President of Virtual Production Solution Sales at APG Media. “This second volume gives their students access to tools that rival many commercial studios, preparing them for the future of filmmaking and content creation.”
To minimize moiré and allow for closer camera shots without distortion, APG deployed custom HyperPixel x Infiled 1.9mm LED panels featuring a 1/8 scan rate—optimized specifically for camera work in virtual environments.
Driving the system are Brompton SX40 and XD processors, ensuring precise color fidelity and seamless Unreal Engine integration. For real-time camera tracking and motion capture applications, APG also installed a Mo-Sys StarTracker solution—further enhancing the immersive quality of the production environment.
Supporting the installation, APG designed and built customized power distribution units, ensuring efficient and reliable operation throughout the LED system.
This installation underscores APG Media’s leadership in delivering turnkey virtual production solutions tailored for both professional and academic environments.
